CMAS Testing Schedule
After Spring Break, we will begin CMAS testing.  Students in fifth grade take ELA (Reading and Writing), Math, and Science.  Students will be taking the ...
ELA test - Tues., March 28th - Thurs., March 30th
Math test - Mon., April 3rd -  Thurs., April 6th
Science test - Tues., April 11 - Thurs., April 13th.

We test in the afternoon from 1:30 to 3:30.  If at all possible,   please avoid appoints on these days which might require your child to be absent.  It is also important that students not leave early on these days, as students must finish the test the day they start.  Unfortunately, this is a lot of testing that we as teachers a required to administer.  As a team we do our best to keep as much instruction time intact without overwhelming the students.

Happy Birthday

Wax Museum Night

Newsletter, February 16th

A Peek At What We are Doing in Fifth Grade

Each year, I leave Wax Museum night in a state of both exhaustion and euphoria.  It always amazes me what the students are able to do.  I hope each student was proud of his or her hard work because I sure was proud of them.
On Wednesday, Preston and Kinard visited with the students and gave them registration packets.  Preston forms are due Thursday, February 23rd.  Kinard forms are due Friday, March 3rd.  The fifth grade teachers are happy to  collect the forms to send to the middle schools, but any forms not brought in after the due date will need to be taken to the middle school directly.  If you have questions, please contact the middle school directly.

Newsletter January 27th

A Peek At What We are Doing in Fifth Grade

I love the Wax Museum project.  The students always work so hard and seem to really enjoy learning about someone new.  Next week we will do the final revisions to our informational books and begin writing our speeches.  We talked a little bit today about the costume today.  Your child will need his or her costume for the dress rehearsal at school that day as well as that evening.
Valentine’s Day is Tuesday, February 14th from 2:45 to 3:30.  In fifth grade we keep parties simple.  We’ll have a competition for the heartiest, sportiest, and the most unique Valentine's Day Box. The kids will distribute and read their Valentines.  I’ll also pick up some juice boxes and cookies for the kids.  If we have time, we’ll play a few games.
You should have received a blank envelope in your child’s Friday Folder last week.  As a special treat for your child, I would like you to send a personal Valentine message to your child for him or her to open with his or her other Valentines that day.  To keep this a surprise, please return your note to school in this envelope on or before Friday, February 3rd, and I will put the note in your child’s Valentine box right before the party.
You can find all the newsletters for the year and other fun pictures at our classroom blog http://khalesclass.blogspot.com/.

We have had a crazy week.  Earlier in the week, we took Math Maps.  On Thursday, we enjoyed a performance from the Fort Collins Symphony.  Today, a speaker spoke to the school about preventing bullying.  We also shared our amazing edible cell projects.  After finishing our biographies, we flash drafted our informational books.  We have been busy.
