A Peek At What We are Doing in Fifth Grad

Whew! The first few days have just flown by!  If the whole year is like this, it will be spring before we know it.  We have a wonderful group of kids in our classes. All of the parents out there need to pat themselves on the back. You have done a great job of raising them.
Please ask your child to see his or her planner where each day students should be reflecting on their day as well as recording homework and upcoming events.  There weren’t any papers to go home so I didn’t send home Friday Folders.
Thanks for being so on task and sending back all the needed forms that went out in the Zach folder.  If you haven’t gone through the folder yet, please sign the necessary forms and send them back to school on Monday. Most of the money for the planners has been received, but if you haven’t gone online to School Pay, please do so.
Just a reminder Back-To-School Night for 5th grade parents is Wednesday, August 30th from 5 -6 in Modular #5.
There will be a separate ECO week meeting on Thursday, September 14th from 6:00 to 7:00 in the cafeteria. Please bring your students to the ECO Week meeting.
We started our first Core unit today - United States Geography & Regions.  Please ask your child to share with you the note explaining the unit and the online study tools.
Beginning of the year Maps testing will be on Monday and Tuesday next week.  Students will be taking Maps in their Math and Reading blocks.
Today, your child is bringing home his or her Friday folder and planner – both will come home at the end of each week.  The Friday folder contains your child’s work from the week as well as any form, etc. that may need to be complete and returned to school. Please take a few minutes to review the Friday folder and planner with your child then return the folder and planner at the beginning of each new week.  Please make sure you check your child’s planner each night and sign it for each day.  There is not a separate sheet to sign in the Friday Folder.
Please ask your child to share with you the ECO Activity Log.  This is to help prepare your child for hiking at ECO week.
If your child is interesting in any of the clubs here at Zach like Art Enrichment or Choir, please read the school newsletter that comes out on Monday carefully.  There will be information there about when and how to register.
Last year, I started a blog for our homeroom https://khalesclass.blogspot.com that I will use to share pictures from the classroom as well as my newsletter.  I will also be posting some pictures on our class twitter account @HalesHomeroom.
I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday night for 5th Grade Back to School Night!  Have a fabulous weekend.

:) Mrs. Hale

A Peek At What We are Doing in Fifth Grad

Hello! It was wonderful meeting many of you today at the open house and seeing lots of familiar faces.  For those families that were unable to make it, I look forward to see your students on Wednesday.
I have a couple of quick things.
Could you please reply, "yes!" to this email just to let me know this is your correct email address.  If you gave the school more than one email address and would like me to take this email off my parent list, just reply, "no!"
As we have many students with allergies, fifth grade is a peanut and tree nut free gradelevel.  A list of suggested snacks can be found online here - Suggested 5th Grade Snack List.
For these first few days of school, you may need to remind your child to bring a water bottle, snack, and lunch.  It can be hard getting back into the school routine.
I'm looking forward to working with you and your child and having a fabulous year.

:) Mrs. Hale

New classroom, new school year.

The classroom is just about ready for the new school year.  It just needs some eager students.
