A Peek At What We are Doing in Fifth Grade

On Halloween, Zach Elementary celebrates with an all-school costume parade that starts at 2:15. After the parade, the fifth graders will head to the cafeteria for an all-fifth grade Halloween party.

Please keep the following in mind when thinking of a costume. Costumes must be elementary - age appropriate - we have young children viewing the parade. Masks are acceptable for the parade only. This means that masks cannot be worn before/after the parade in the school. Students need to be able to dress in the costume independently; makeup and hair can be done prior to school. No toy weapons (follow the student code of conduct).

If you volunteered to donate supplies for the Halloween party, we would appreciate it if you could bring them in on Tuesday.

You can find all the newsletters for the year on our classroom blog http://khalesclass.blogspot.com/.

A Peek At What We Are Doing In Fifth Grade

The students did an amazing job leading their conferences. They were reflective of their learning and seemed to be very honest in how they viewed their work and effort this school year. I hope you found the time meaningful.

We have completed our first writing unit, personal narratives. To start the unit, we learned how to generate ideas. To raise the level of our writing, we used the technique of “Dream the Dream” and bringing forth what our story was really about. I’ll send out an email to you next week with a link to “Our Written Word” blog where you will find our final pieces. We hope you enjoy reading them.

A Peek At What We are Doing in Fifth Grade

Student-led conferences start this week. When you arrive, you are welcome to come into the room and sit quietly in the back until we are finished with the current conference. I am not sure what the weather will be like especially later in the evening. If after the conference, you have questions that we didn’t answer, please email me and we can set up an additional time to meet or for us to talk over the phone.

We have a few items that were left behind from Eco Week that we have put out in a special lost and found box in Mrs. Odom’s modular. If you think your child is missing something, please feel free to stop by before or after conferences.

We’d appreciate at it if you’d check that your child has their glasses with them on Monday for vision and hearing screening.

In fifth grade, we have an all-fifth grade Halloween Party following the parade. Thank you to those parents who have signed up to run an activity or donate supplies. At this time, we do not have a coordinator. If you’d be able to coordinate, please let us know. You’d be the one that knows how to set up the room, tells each parent volunteer which activity he or she is running, and takes all the supplies to the cafeteria so the parent volunteers can set up.
