Newsletter, September 7th
A Peek At What We are Doing in Fifth Grade
We are three weeks into the year and it feels like time is flying by. I just have a few pieces of information for you this week.
Thank you to all the parents who said they were available to volunteer this year. If you’d like to volunteer but haven’t signed up, please visit our online form at https://tinyurl.com/zach5vol.
Thank you for taking the time out of your evening to attend the Eco Week meeting with your child. I hope you found it informative and that your child is getting excited. If you are sending your first child to Eco Week you may have a few questions that we didn’t answer. If you do, please email or call me. Just a few reminders. We need all forms returned by Thursday, September 20th. Medication forms and the actual medicine need to be brought to the office by Wednesday, September 19th. You can pay for Eco Week in School Pay or send a check made out to Zach Elementary for $120. We will never let cost stand in the way of this amazing opportunity. Please let me know if you have any concerns about the cost.
Please remind your child that all cell phones need to be in their backpacks (on silent mode) when at school (8:40 -3:38). We understand if a student needs to check in with you when they arrive at school, but we ask that they then store their phones safely away in their backpacks. Thanks for your help with this!
PTO News: The Zach Enrichment Fund (ZEF) campaign is in full swing right now until Sept. 30. We are only halfway to our schoolwide ZEF goal and still need to raise about $23,000 more. If you have not donated to ZEF yet, please consider doing so. ZEF provides each teacher with money to use in their classroom and directly on students. A suggested donation of $100 per child is recommended and you can pay via School Pay, cash, or check to Zach Elementary. Thank you!

A Peek At What We are Doing in Fifth Grade
Whew! The first few days have just flown by! If the whole year is like this, it will be spring before we know it. We have a wonderful group of kids in our classes. All of the parents out there need to pat themselves on the back. You have done a great job of raising them.
Thanks for being so on task and sending back all the needed forms that went out in the Zach folder.
If you haven’t gone through the folder that was sent home at the open house, please pull out and sign the necessary forms and send them back to school on Monday. Most of the money for the planners have been received, but if you haven’t gone online to School Pay, please do so.
Just a reminder Back-To-School Night for 5th grade parents is Thursday, August 30th from 5:30 - 6:30 in Modular #5. There will be a separate ECO week meeting on Thursday, September 6th from 5:30 to 6:30 in the cafeteria. Please bring your students to the ECO Week meeting.
We started our first Core unit yesterday - United States Geography & Regions. Please ask your child to share with you the note explaining the unit and the online study tools.
Beginning of the year Maps testing will be on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Students will be taking Maps in their Math and Reading blocks.
Today, your child is bringing home his or her Friday folder and planner – both will come home at the end of each week. The Friday folder contains your child’s work from the week as well as any form, etc. that may need to be completed and returned to school. Please take a few minutes to review the Friday folder and planner with your child then return the folder and planner at the beginning of each new week. Please make sure you check your child’s planner each night and sign it for each day.
Please ask your child to share with you the ECO Activity Log. This is to help prepare your child for hiking at ECO week.
You can find all the newsletters for the year and other fun pictures including a video of Bron’s “Who Knew” at our classroom blog http://khalesclass.blogspot.com/.
I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday night for 5th Grade Back to School Night! Have a fabulous weekend.
:) Mrs. Hale
